NEURODIVERGENT PROJECT
Neurodivergency refers to a wide range of neurological differences that can effect a person's behavior, communication, perceptions and social skills.
Autism Spectrum Disorder can affect behavior, communication and social skills. Sensory Processing Disorder causes difficulty in processing sensations from touch, taste, smell and sound. Dypraxia impacts the ability to plan and execute coordinated physical movements. Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder ADHD affects the ability to focus and control impulses. Dyslexia impacts a person´s ability to read and write. Neurodivergent conditions are neither good nor bad; they are simply different.
Our mission is to raise awareness and provide support for the neurodivergent community through our Online and Virtual Gallery. Some of our contributors are themselves neurodivergent and we feel privileged to have the opportunity to share our artists´ unique strengths and gifts with you. Some other Artists are passionate about making change through Art.
We are proud to provide a platform for either artists who choose to donate a portion of the proceeds from their sales towards charities and institutions that serve the neurodivergent community.
AUTISM
Art has been shown to be a beneficial activity for people with autism in a number of ways. Creating and engaging with art provides a platform for non-verbal personal expression. This outlet for emotional expression can be calming and soothing for the individual while deepening their interaction with others. For some, art can help develop transferable fine motor skills as well. Art can serve as a healthy and effective outlet for communication for those who may otherwise struggle to make connections with others.
Our first campaign within the Neurodivergent Project will focus on Autism during April Autism Awareness Month. We are looking for artists who identify as being on the autism spectrum, as well as those who want to offer their support to join this project. This is an ongoing project so you can participate and purchase their Art at any point during the year. A portion of the sale of your artwork will go to the UK National Autistic Society or an organization in which the Artist has been donating, as well as to the Artists.
